Jesus in Genesis (Gen 3.15, 9.26-27)

Genesis 3.15

Jesus will be wounded by Satan

He will rescue mankind by delivering a fatal blow to Satan

Gen. 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”

Heb. 2:14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

3:15. God said there would be a perpetual struggle between satanic forces and mankind. It would be between Satan and the woman, and their respective offspring or “seeds.” The “offspring” of the woman was Cain, then all humanity at large, and then Christ and those collectively in Him. The “offspring” of the serpent includes demons and anyone serving his kingdom of darkness, those whose “father” is the devil (John 8:44). Satan would cripple mankind (you will strike at his heel), but the Seed, Christ, would deliver the fatal blow (He will crush your head).

Bible Knowledge Commentary

Genesis 9.26-27

Jesus came from the line of Shem who was blessed

He did not come from the line of Canaan who was cursed

Gen. 9:26 He also said, “Blessed be the LORD, The God of Shem; And let Canaan be his servant. 27 “May God enlarge Japheth, And let him dwell in the tents of Shem; And let Canaan be his servant.”

Luke 3:36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

Observations on the Calling of God (What I believe)

Praying for Our Army Work (Yesterday's Prayer Warriors: 23/100. Two days in a row! Shooting for 25!)

Pray for our continuous joyous obedience to His call

Pray for the protection of our soldiers both physically and spiritually

Pray for our soldiers in Korea (Staff: Bill Meyer)

Click Here if you Prayed Today

Observations on the Calling of God

I believe that God can call us through a mystical or logical persuasion (Ex 3.1-11, Acts 9.1-9, 1 Tim 3.1-7 Mt 4.19, Mt 10.1-2, Mk 3.13-14, Lk 6.12-13)

I believe the call of God is a preordained sovereign act of His choosing and it cannot be revoked (Rom 11.29)

I believe there is a generic call to follow Jesus and make His disciples on every human on the planet (1 Pet 3.18, 2 Pet 3.9, Mt 4.19, 28.18-20)

I believe the call of God can be resisted and disobeyed (Ex 3.1-11, Jonah 1.1-4)

Forms of God's Calling

Pray that men and women from our work will be missionaries all over the world

That God would give us committed laborers for His Kingdom in the Army

Answers to prayer: Doug Cote is doing much better and Tina Fajardo is recovering very nicely and has regained 20/20 vision. All Service Directors had their first conference call today and things are looking great for the military mission of the Navigators.

Click Here if you Prayed Today

Forms of God's Calling

Mystical – Moses and the burning bush (Ex 3.1-11), Paul and the blinding light (Acts 9.1-9)

Logical – A man’s Desire to be an overseer (1 Tim 3.1-7), the 12 following Jesus (Mt 4.19, Mt 10.1-2, Mk 3.13-14, Lk 6.12-13)

Combination of Both – Jesus growing into His calling and hearing from God (Lk 2.40, Mt 1.16, Mk 1.10, Lk 3.22, Jn 1.32-33), Paul’s Missionary Journey into Asia Minor (Acts 16.6-10 Paul making decisions and then the HS directing) David being chosen by Samuel the prophet (1 Sam 16.1-13)

Principles in the Calling of God

Praying for Our Army Work (Yesterday's Prayer Warriors: 22/100)

Pray that we will be used of God to help others realize their great calling in Jesus Christ

Pray for more laborers for the harvest

Pray for Fort Jackson (Staff: Jason Peters)

Principles in the Calling of God

God’s design for us is from eternity past (Ps 139.13-16, Jer 29.11-13, Eph 2.10)

And yet we are to respond by human will (Eph 4.1, 2 Pet 1.10)

But the calling of God is irrevocable (Rom 11.29)

Following Jesus is a generic calling to all men (1 Pet 3.18, 2 Pet 3.9, Mat 22.14)

The Calling of Timothy

Praying for Our Army Work (Yesterday's Prayer Warriors: 7/100. We need to recruit more prayer warriors to the effort. Please join me in asking folks to become a member of the Centurion Prayer Team)

Pray for the healing of Doug Cote, one of our staff at Ft Bragg, who has leukemia and has contracted pneumonia. This is a very dangerous combination

Pray for the communications aspect of my leadership in the Army Nav Ministry that I would inform, inspire, and encourage

Pray for the ministry at Ft Stewart (Staff: John and Sarah Beth Kreitzer)

Click Here if you Prayed Today

Observations from the Call of Timothy

Timothy was recruited by Paul to accompany him on the mission (Act 16.1-3)

Timothy came out of good stock being discipled by his mother and grandmother (2 Tim 1.5)

Throughout Paul’s writings to Timothy he give strong exhortation to fulfill his gifting as a spiritual leader (1 Tim 1.3,18, 4.12,14, 6.20, 2 Tim 1.8-9, 4.5)

Paul assumes that there will be a natural reproduction of Timothy’s calling (2 Tim 2.2)

Although there is certainly a spiritual/mystical component to Timothy’s calling, most of his calling is realized in Paul’s training and exhortation to be an godly effective overseer/elder (esp. in Ephesus)

Besides the example of the 12 and Timothy a key verse for the calling of God to vocational ministry as a natural/logical pursuit is 1 Tim 3.1-7.

Observations on the Calling of the 12

It began with an all night prayer vigil (Lk 6.12)

They were chosen and sent (Mt 10.1-2, Mk 3.13-14, Lk 6.12-13)

They were sent with out resources and earned a living from the gospel (Mt 10.8-10)

They were told they would be severely persecuted and that didn’t happen until after the resurrection which presumes that this was a permanent calling not temporary (Mt 10.16-25)

Peter makes mention that they had left everything (Mk 10.28-31, Lk 18.28-30)

This was certainly a vocational calling and it was logical not mystical

Observations from the Calling of Samuel (1 Sam 1.21-27)

The natural progression of a women’s commitment to God 22-27

There is the element of proper timing 22

The couple works together in accomplishing God’s design 22-23

Elkanah is only interested in God’s Word being fulfilled 23

Hannah not only brings her son (which would seem offering enough) but she give an extravagant offering in addition. This is giving with out reluctance or compulsion (2 Cor 9.6-7)

She made good on her vow with great joy 28

Observations from the Calling of Samuel (1 Sam 1.12-20)

Samuel’s calling was conceived in his mother’s prayer of anguish 12-16

Sometimes people do not understand our circumstances and may act inappropriately 13-16

Misunderstandings when clarified can become a blessing and confidence 17-18

The LORD did the work of opening Hannah’s womb 19-20Click Here to Recieve Chuck's Devotional by Email

Observations for the Calling of Samuel (1 Sam 1.1-11)

The Power of a Godly Mom

Samuel’s calling begins with a barren wife named Hannah 1

They were a godly family 3-5

The LORD had caused this barrenness 5-6

She was looked down upon by the other wife 6

She endured her barrenness and maltreatment 7

She was conscious of her husbands feelings but went to God for help 8-11

She dedicated her son to the LORD 11

Samuel’s calling began with his mother’s distress and commitment to the LORD

The Calling of Abraham (Gen 12.1-3)

Praying for Our Army Work (Yesterday's Prayer Warriors: 15/100)

That God would speak to us and we would listen

That in the line of Abraham and most importantly the line of Jesus we would be a blessing to all the families of the earth

For our leadership as they make the selection of the Navy and Air Force Directors next week

Answered prayer: Thanks for healing Tina Fajardo at Ft Lewis

Observations from the Call of Abraham (Gen 12.1-3)

God spoke to Abraham (Act 7.2, The God of glory appeared to Abraham) 1

He tells him to leave his country, his relatives and his family 1

He tell him to go to a land He will show him but doesn’t say where 1

God gives Abraham some promises 2-3

He says He will make Abraham a great nation 2

He will bless Him and he will be a blessing 2

He will make his name great 2

He will bless those who bless him 3

And curse those who curse him 3

He will bless all the families of the earth through him 3

So Abraham took God at His word and left 4Click Here to Recieve Chuck's Devotional by Email

The Calling of Moses (Ex 4.10-16)

Praying for Our Army Work (Yesterday's Prayer Warriors: 16/100)

May we use our words carefully and may they be from God (Ps 19.14)

Here are prayer requests from Major Jim and Wendy Cameron in Hawaii

Wisdom in ministry for all of us as we figure out how best to pursue the Kingdom here at Schofield

Laborers--especially an enlisted soldier and a young officer

Continued favor with the Chaplains and local staff

For God's Spirit to continue to work in our ministry and in the hearts of the soldiers here--and that we would trust in Him

Observations on the Calling of Moses (Ex 4.10-16)

Moses appeals to God a third time noting his poor ability to speak 10

The LORD reminds him who created the mouth and tongue 11

God tells Moses to go and He will put the words in Moses’ mouth 12

Moses’ final appeal to God was to send someone else 13

This final appeal made God angry 14

But even in God’s anger with Moses He is still patient and gives Moses a substitute mouth (his brother Aaron) 14

God says He will give Moses the words to give to Aaron and directly to Aaron as well 15

God says He will teach them what to do 15

God says that Aaron will be Moses’ mouth piece to the people 16

God says that the words spoken by Moses are as good as God’s words themselves 16

Observations from the Call of Moses (Ex 4.1-9)

Moses makes his second appeal about being called 1
God gives Moses three signs to show the elders; A staff/snake 2-5, a leprous/clean hand 6-8, and Nile water turned to blood 9
God again reminds Moses of his ancestors 5
